AutoCAD crashing not starting. 2016, 2017, 2018
Heads up. It looks like the latest .NET 4.7 update is breaking some Autodesk products.
Microsoft is installing .NET 4.7 as part of their auto updates and it is causing many legacy Autodesk applications to crash on any ribbon interaction. Touch the ribbon, away goes your software. We have seen cases where the product will also not launch after .NET 4.7 is installed.
If you can keep from installing the 4.7 framework do so. If the damage is already done then uninstall .NET 4.7 and install .NET 4.6.2 using this download link. Note that the uninstall of the offending version must be done first!

Autodesk Maintenance to Subscription Conversion
Autodesk is moving toward a single business model
We want to give you a clear picture of upcoming changes. Managing two different business models is costly and most would like the option of a single licensing environment. There is an equitable offer for your maintenance plan licenses to be switched to subscription–at a discounted rate that recognizes your Autodesk investment to date.
Subscription Advantages
By switching to subscription, you will have:
- Latest and greatest product capabilities – Get access to Autodesk’s ongoing stream of innovation, updates to core products, cloud services for desktop products, and additional capabilities as soon as they are available, at no additional cost.
- Access to new industry collections – Available only through subscription, you’ll realize significant savings when you need two or more Autodesk software products.
- New and improved support – Enjoy faster response times and the option to receive help by scheduling a call with Autodesk technical support specialists, as well as direct level one support from Robotech.Simplified administration – Access tools that streamline deployment and software management
Switching from maintenance to subscription
Beginning in June 2017, most products on maintenance can be easily switched to a subscription at the time of renewal for a discounted price. You can take advantage of this offer once per seat of a product on maintenance. The price to switch will increase 5% in 2018 and another 5% in 2019, so the sooner you switch to subscription, the less it will cost—giving you greater savings compared to waiting to move, or staying on maintenance. As long as you continue to renew, you’ll also be able to secure discounted pricing for up to 3 years. This price is a fraction of the cost of a new subscription.
Changes to maintenance plans
It’s expensive and complicated to manage two business models. It makes more sense to switch to subscription, both in terms of longer-term cost savings and added value that will be provided exclusively to subscribers. Beginning May 7, 2017, maintenance renewal prices will increase by 5% in 2017, 10% in 2018, and 20% in 2019. To mitigate these increases and enjoy the benefits of subscribing sooner, consider moving to a subscription at the time of renewal.
